If you look at exercise as a grueling necessity, then you need to take another look. Dance workouts are a fun way to get in shape! Have you ever noticed what dancers' bodies look like? They are slim, tight, and toned.

There are many different types of dancing classes to choose from and all will promote a healthy heart, mind, and body. Classes are fun and interesting and at the same time you'll get a total body workout.

Here are some dancing workouts that will get you moving:

  • Zumba – The new dance craze that's sweeping gyms all over the country. Zumba is a mix of Latin dances like salsa, cumbia, and merengue, mixed with some hip-hop and swing moves. The upbeat music in this class will get you sweating and your heart pumping. The dance works the entire body targeting the abs, but you'll be having so much fun that you might not realize it!
  • Hip-Hop - All of those dancers on stage stay in great shape with hip-hop. The basic dance moves focus on shaking your butt and moving your hips from side to side. Strong abs muscles are need to switch hops, and you'll getthem doing these moves. You’ll sweat and have a blast at the same time.
  • Belly Dancing - This dance workout will trim your midsection and the hips. There is definitely a trick to getting only the hips to move, but with a little practice you’ll get the hang of it. Belly dancing whittles the waist and the arm movements raise your heart rate.
  • Bhangra Dancing - This is an Indian dance that takes the body through a series of slimming routines. Masala Bhangra workouts provide a cardiovascular workout that is fun and effective.
  • Ballroom dancing – Who would have thought that such a high society form of dance would hit the mainstream? It’s not the ballroom dancing of the 19th century. With quick moves, spins, throws, and dips, the ballroom dancing of today is hotter than ever. It is all that balancing work that keeps the dancers in such good shape for competitions.
  • Aerobic dance – These classes mix dance moves with some aerobics either on the floor or using an aerobic step. As you work the legs, buns, and heart performing step aerobics routines, the steps get more fluid when Latin dance moves like the cumbia are thrown in for good measure. While step aerobics is hard, the dancing component adds some choreography.
  • Couples dance classes – More and more couples are finding that they can have a good time and work up a sweat in a dance class. These classes are held in small studios. Choose your style: Fox trot, salsa, ballroom, or freestyle. Get a few friends together and try a class. You’ll learn some new moves and get in some physical activity three or more days a week.

Vary your dance workout routines to keep things interesting and get your body into shape doing something that you already love to do. At the same time you're working out, you'll learn some new dance moves that you'll be able to do wherever you go with your new body.

Dancing workouts are deceiving. Just because you are having fun doesn’t mean you aren’t exercising your body. You may not get all the dance moves perfect right away, but practice makes perfect! And once you perfect the basic moves, you can easily add some additional ones that work your body even further.

Dancing workouts can be done at right at home with DVDs or with other in a group class at a gym or studio. You can burn an enormous amount of calories with each hour of dancing that you do.
