Staying Slim
by Carol
(U.S.)
I am someone who is always conscious of my weight. I guess I've never been "overweight". Not that I wouldn't be if I didn't try hard to stay fit! I come from a long line of "over-weight" people. My whole family it seems fits that description. My mother and four sisters are all obese! My Aunts are all obese! One Aunt, in particular seems to be wider than she is tall!
Now for some people that may be o.k, but not for me. I don't look down on anyone who truly struggles with their weight, because I know how hard it can be to keep weight off. I weigh myself almost daily, and if I think I might be gaining, I'll cut back on my food intake, and exercise more.
I try not to let my weight get out of control, where the thought of losing a great deal of weight would be overwhelming. I guess you could say I'm somewhat paranoid about gaining weight. In a good way though. The thing that really keeps me motivated, is the simple fact that I don't want to look like the rest of my family!

Ask Yourself "Why Do I Want To Lose Weight"?
by Quinn
(Washington State)
I'm only 15, but I am overweight and want to lose weight. Never has it crossed my mind to be anorexic, or bulemic, because I realize these are extremely unhealthy ways to lose weight. I think the only reason I've been able to keep up with my daily routine is because I have this paper in my weight loss journal that says "You are losing weight so you can follow your dream and act on Broadway". Reading this every day, I realize that the reason I'm losing weight is because the industry that I want to be in does take image into account, but I also realize that I'm doing it to feel good about myself. I think that when you can think of a specific reason why you're working to lose weight, it's easier to stick to it. So make a goal, make a reason, and lose some weight! ;)

You need to treat yourself
by Charles
(Milton Keynes, United Kingdom)
In 1994 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. It was probably my own fault. To say that I had a misspent youth is the understatement of the century.
So now I had to drastically change my eating and drinking habits. Generally speaking, since then I have been a good boy. The way I do it is by rewarding myself with little treats. I love chocolate and cake, but unfortunately I daren't indulge too often. So when I do indulge, it is because I have set myself a goal and achieved it. For example, no chocolate for the month of November. That is easy to achieve because I know that my reward on the first of December is a few of my favorite chocolates. The treat makes the abstinence worth while.
